In this case, "Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities" summarized with augmentative/alternative communication (AAC) is used to show how a legal document can be translated into a format that most people can understand. Abstract: Twenty-five year old Scott Kuebler uses a ChatPC to augment his speech. He uses it for a variety of activities including food orders at restaurants, religious observances, Boy Scout activities, speeches, graces at the table, conversation and employment activities. Focus of this session is to familiarize audience with actual conversational interactions in a grocery store with and individual utilizing augmentative communication. Opportunity will be provided for instruction and practice of learned concepts in conversation with the user.

Abstract: Due to the limited number of conversational partners for AAC users and environmentally friendly settings for AAC users, familiarization with AAC users and methods is helpful for people in the community, workers and professionals. Scott will use his ChatPC and Ron will use the ChatPC on a laptop to role play ordering food in a restaurant. Attendees will have the opportunity to order restaurant food with an AAC user as customer with his device.

Abstract: The ChatPC AAC device is combined with a Power Point presentation to show how a 23 year old man with Down Syndrome and impaired communication can present a speech. The Power Point is about how to earn the Congressional Award, a worldwide opportunity for 14-23 year olds to set goals and be recognized. The author promotes the idea by using the ChatPC with PCS symbols, synthetic speech and digital images and a laptop computer to present a visual and graphic display outlining steps to achieve the award. The ChatPC and Power Point enable the author to encourage people to register and earn the Congressional (International) Award.
